Sophia (Robin + Will) - Apr. 17 '01: Knust, Hamburg (D)
Review 1
I have to admit that I am not a old Sophia fan but I adore the God Machine but since they split I haven’t followed the work of Robin. Yesterday I read in the local newspaper that the former singer of the God Machine was playing with his new band Sophia here in Hamburg at the little club ‘Knust’.
So I searched Napster and the first song I got was "So slow" and I loved it. So I decided to go to the concert and it was just fabulous!!!!!!!
The club was packed. He started to tell us that he was quite drunk (well he was). I have seen one of the best concerts in my life with probably the worst ‘Jealous guy’ I have heard (too many interruptions cause of no lyrics- no it was great). At the end of the concert before the encore somebody told him that a friend will have her birthday so he played a song for her.
Then he didn’t know which song to play. Somebody suggested a song and he answered that he didn’t remember the lyrics. A girl said “well I do” so he asked her to sing that song. She went on the stage with her ‘Placebo’ t-shirt and they sung the song together. Robin said “It’s like U2”. Really cool.

I´ve been to the show on Tuesday in Hamburg and it was awesome!
I might add that normally every Sophia gig is awesome, but this was my sixth show and it was the best ever, Robin also said it was one of the best ever.

I can’t tell you everything that happened in Hamburg, but Robin was pretty drunk from the start on and added a beer and some wine after every song. He talked a lot more than on normal gigs, including some “secrets” about himself and why it’s so strange to play all these sad songs, because he feels pretty good at the moment.
The highlight was, when at the end, he asked which songs we’d like to hear. I said ‘Within without’ and he was like… “errr...we never played this together...” and then started to remember the song... but couldn’t.... Will on the piano got the main line and so they worked it out very fast.., but then Robin said that he didn’t know the lyrics. A girl in the crowd said: “I do” - not knowing what would happen, cause Robin took her onstage and they tried to sing the song together which was very funny and had a very special kind of beauty after a few errors. Really... it was a great show.
